Overview
Tennis legend Roger Federer survived a scare in the round of 16 to reach the quarter-final of the Stuttgart Open. Facing 18-year-old Taylor Fritz, the Swiss Maestro almost lost the game, clearly losing focus due to the rain delay that ensured that the game was suspended until Thursday.
The world number three eventually won the game 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. The victory tied him with Ivan Lendl for the second-most match wins at 1,071 in the open era. Federer definitely comes into this clash as the favourite and with the crowd egging him on, he will look to win here and move to the semi-final.
His opponent, Germany's Florian Mayer comes into this clash after registering a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over fellow countryman Michael Berrer in the second round. Although Mayer is currently ranked 226 in the world, he does have a career-high ranking of 18 and has given Federer tough competition in their last two games.
