Overview
It is not often that you see a legend of the game play in an ATP 250 tournament, but with the former world number one would play in Stuttgart, as he is returning from injury he sustained ahead of the French Open.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion has been ravaged by injuries this season. Federer had to undergo a knee surgery post the Australian Open, and just as he was set to compete in the following competition, he injured his back. This lead to the Swiss Maestro pulling out of Roland Garros, the first time that he has missed a major event since 1999.
The current world number three will come as favourites, but as he is returning from injury, he will need to hit his strides immediately.
On the other hand, his opponent Taylor Fritz is an exciting talent but is still new to the ATP Tour and is yet to make his mark in the world of tennis. Ranked 65th in the world, Fritz will need to make the most of the opportunity as it is not everyday that you get to face a tennis legend. It is unlikely that he will cause an upset despite Federer's back injury.
