Rogue One: A Star Wars Story advance ticket sales to open on 28 November in the US

Eagerly anticipated prequel-turned-spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story finally lands in cinemas in just three weeks time, but while fans in the UK have been able to book their tickets to showings for a good few days now, those in the US have been waiting patiently to find when they can start reserving their seats in advance. Now, an official Star Wars tweet has revealed exactly when they will be available for purchase.

Alongside a menacing GIF of the franchise's most iconic baddie, the account tweeted: "Lord Vader, we've been expecting you. Tickets for #RogueOne: A Star Wars Story are available on Monday, November 28."

According to Variety, the film is currently expecting to make at least $130million (£104.5m) in the US over its opening weekend. If it manages to match the projections, it would mark the second biggest December opening of all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The latter broke records when it was released on 17 December by earning $248m domestically during its first weekend on big screens.

Currently, Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is runner-up, having made $84.6m over the equivalent period. I Am Legend follows with $77.2m.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and also starring Diego Luna, Genevieve O'Reilly, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Felicity Jones, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story revolves around a group of rebels who plan to infiltrate the Imperial Army base in order to steal plans for the first Death Star.

While there have already been prequels to the Star Wars originals, which were arguably not well received, Rogue One will bring audiences right up to the beginning of A New Hope. The film is scheduled to open in UK and US cinemas on 16 December 2016.
