Brand and his YouTube show the Trews have partnered with Startjoin - a crypto currency crowdfunding platform - as well as the cryptocurrency itself Startcoin to raise money for the cause, according to a report on cityam.com.
Startjoin was co-founded by the maverick financial Russia Today TV commentator Max Keiser, who is famous for his tirades against the big banks and incumbent financial industry.
A cryptocurrency (or crypto currency) is a medium of exchange using cryptography to secure the transactions and to control the creation of new units.Cryptocurrencies are a subset of alternative currencies, or specifically of digital currencies. Bitcoin became the first decentralised cryptocurrency in 2009. Since then, numerous cryptocurrencies have been created. These are frequently called altcoins, as contraction of bitcoin alternative.
Cryptocurrencies typically feature decentralised control - unlike centralised electronic money system, such as PayPal - and a public ledger, which records transactions.
