Salford hit and run: Pregnant woman run over and pinned to car bonnet in Higher Broughton
Police in Salford are appealing for witnesses after a pregnant woman was run over by a car and pinned to its bonnet in Higher Broughton. The incident happened at about 7.35pm on Monday (23 November 2015) when the 34-year-old woman was crossing Bury New Road, walking towards Wellington Street West.
As she was walking, a dark coloured Volkswagen Polo or Golf crashed into her, carrying her on the bonnet for a short distance before it stopped. The male driver then got out and words were exchanged before he got back in the car and drove off. He is described as being white, tall, aged in his 20s or 30s and wore casual clothing.
Police Constable Mike Connolly said: "The woman is five months pregnant, but thankfully the baby is OK. However, the victim suffered broken bones in her right arm and leg and will undergo surgery soon. I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or know who the driver is to call police as soon as possible."
Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
