Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 to get Quad-Core Update
Samsung has stopped production of its Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, in order to upgrade the device with a quad-core processor, according to a report by Netbooknews, who claim to have received the news from a Samsung insider. The report also says the gadget's codename (according to the source) is "Espresso"; this appears to confirm other rumours about a similarly-named gadget launch.
There is little else, in terms of information, available at present. However, it is expected the revamped tablet could feature the Exynos 4412 quad-core processor. At present, according to information provided on the company Web site, the Tab 2 10.1 features a 1GHz dual-core processor and was one of the first Samsung tablets to run on an Android v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and TouchWiz combination. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 10.1 will also be getting a quad-core processor.
There are also rumours the next iteration of the Galaxy series of smartphones will feature ARM architecture-based Exynos 4412, as reported in an earlier IBTimes UK report.
The Tab 2 10.1 had earlier been slotted for a March release but the process of upgrading OS to Ice Cream Sandwich reportedly pushed the release date to late April and then late May, according to a T3 report. The present expected date of release for the US is 13 May; the UK launch is expected to be shortly afterwards.
