Samsung Gear S2 update with new features, UX improvements and more expected soon
The Gear S2 will finally be able to track your sleep patterns.
A major new update is expected to be released for the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch. The update is reported to be the biggest yet for the wearable with major user experience (UX) changes.
Among the update's new features will be the ability to use photos as backgrounds in watch faces just as they are used on phones. Apart from that the Gear S2 will also offer watch face recommendations and let users install these faces from the watch itself.
The Gear S2′s fitness tracking features are also set to get improvements such as a sleep monitor. Most fitness trackers in the market have the sleep monitor feature that tells users about their sleep patterns including deep and light sleep hours.
Apart from this there will also be the addition of a UV index information in the weather app, a start timer for using S Voice, and a master menu for managing notifications. It is not known at this time whether this update will be exclusively for the S2 or in the form of TizenOS 3.0 whose beta version Samsung was due to release in July.
The TizenOS 3.0 platform is slated to be 64-bit compatible enabling it to work with ARM and x86-based processors. Tizen would also be able to support 4K resolution screens that will enable it to work for Samsung's smart TVs. The device on which the final version of the TizenOS 3.0 will be unveiled is not known but reports say the company could unveil it with the Gear S3 smartwatch expected towards the end of the year.
