Selena Gomez stuns as Billboard's Woman Of The Year, but angry fans wanted Ariana Grande for title
Gomez is a worthy winner, but some felt Grande deserved it over the money she raised for Manchester.
Selena Gomez has had quite the dramatic 12 months, from undergoing a kidney transplant due to complications with her lupus to breaking up with The Weeknd and getting back together with her on/off ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
The 25-year-old has also managed to release some epic hit singles amid her very eventful year, including Bad Liar, which has had over 202 million views on YouTube.
As a result, Gomez has been named Billboard's Woman Of The Year. After receiving the title last month, the pop sensation posed in an awe-striking shoot for the entertainment brand.
The star, who has recently got in touch with her rebellious side by revealing a new blonde hairdo at the AMAs, is brunette in the sultry shot, and sports a full face of edgy makeup.
Rocking a bold smoky eye and red lips, Gomez's hair is slicked back behind her ears in a wet-look style for an androgynous feel.
Glaring into the camera with her lips slightly apart, the Fetish hitmaker shows off her curves in a plunging tuxedo style jumpsuit by Mugler featuring slick satin lapels. While the tailored outfit is more boyish than Gomez usually goes for, she oozes femininity in the stylish one-piece by forgoing a top underneath and showing off her cleavage.
Billboard shared the alluring picture onto their Instagram page, writing in the caption: "Woman crush of the year. #womeninmusic | : @ruvenafanador".
Social media users commented on the snap in their droves, with one person writing: "I couldn't think of any women more deserving than her ".
Many believed Ariana Grande should have been awarded the nod after raising nearly £3m for victims' families of the Manchester attack on 22 May.
Another person wrote: "Sorry I'm not particularly down for this. I'm not even a fan of Ariana Grande but this woman is even too qualified for such an award. After everything she did for Manchester? The bravery she had to go back and perform, giving all the proceeds to those who were affected by the tragedy."
While a third added: "Why are you guys comparing Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez?! WHY ARE YOU SO IMMATURE? YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME."
Someone else said: "a moment ... Selena is elected "Woman of the Year" for her illness? then Ariana who has suffered a terrorist attack he has to say?"
One more added: "I love Selena but for me, Ariana is definitely the real woman of the year ❤️"
Gomez joined the likes of last year's winner Madonna, along with Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé for boasting the title.
John Amato, president of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, said: "Not only is Selena soaring on the charts, but she continuously inspires young women everywhere to be authentic, give back and to not be afraid to use their voice."
"She is never afraid to speak her mind and has used her platform to advocate for the needs of others. We are thrilled to be able to honour her as our Woman of the Year," he added.
