Racing revelation Sergio Perez was unveiled as Lewis Hamilton's replacement at Mclaren yesterday, with the Mexican saying he believes that at the British racing team he can become a future Formula One champion.

Perez joins Mclaren after two years at Sauber, in which he recorded three podium finishes. The 22 year old believes that under Mclaren he is aiming not just to win his first race in the upcoming F1 season, but to contend for the driver's championship as well.

"The target is to win, not only races but the championship, because we are here to win. All the people who are working in this building is with the same target, no, the same motivation, to win, to fight for winning and if we are not winning we are doing something wrong, so we have to really work in this direction."

Perez said he was pleased to have 2009 world champion Jenson Button as a teammate, though vowed to beat him this year.

"For me for myself, at this young age and young career that I have, it is very nice, no, to have a world champion as a team mate so I think I have a lot to learn from him, but as the same time I want to beat him and I want to succeed - I want to beat all the others. I think I got a lot to learn from Jenson because I think in my view he is probably one of the best drivers in the world."

The new Formula One season starts in a couple of months' time, with the Australian Grand Prix on 17 March.
