Floored by Ratner's gesture, Khan tweeted back saying, "Thank you so much.. That's quite a compliment."
This is not the first time a Bollywood star has impressed a Hollywood director.
Earlier this month, another Indian movie star, Hrithik Roshan, was seen dining with The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen in Mumbai.
The meeting has sparked rumours that Cohen may cast the Bollywood hunk in his upcoming action thriller film.
Meanwhile, the Bollywood superstar is all set for the 2014 Fifa World Cup that kicks off tonight in Brazil.
Khan, a sports lover, tweeted that he will be glued to the television till the tournament's final.
