Sheffield Wednesday host Arsenal in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup as the Gunners aim to win the League Cup for the first time under Arsene Wenger. The Gunners are expected to make a lot of changes for the game, having had a tough few weeks, with a myriad of games to contend with.

Overview

Sheffield have an enviable record against Arsenal in recent years, with the Gunners having failed to beat the Championship side in any of their last six encounters. Arsene Wenger is yet to taste victory over his opponents in his 19 years in charge and manager Carlos Carvalhal will be desperate to make sure the record stays that way.

However, it will be a difficult task for the visitors, with Sheffield currently on an unbeaten run, having gone eight games in all competitions without defeat. They do have a lot of injury concerns ahead of the game, with Michael Turner, Alex Lopez, Marco Matias and Modou Sougou all out of contention while Sam Hutchinson and Glenn Loovens also need to be assessed for injuries.

Arsenal are set to give their second string side a chance, with Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Joel Campbell and others all set to start. The Gunners have played three high-intensity games in eight days and are likely to hand Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil a much-needed break from action.

The north London club are currently second in the league table, behind Manchester City on goal difference and would be looking to prioritise the league, where they will travel away to Swansea City next weekend. They also have an important tie coming up against Bayern Munich, where a point will go a long way to increase their chances of qualifying for the group stages.

Arsenal have played Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Everton and scored a lot of goals. Quite rightly they are favourites. The pressure is on Arsenal. It is expected that they will win by 99% of people watching the game. We have nothing to lose."

Arsene Wenger: "Let's continue to work together and continue to improve. There are still many aspects to our game which we can improve and therefore let's focus and try to be a better team. We need to keep the togetherness, the concentration, the humility and try to play better football game by game and try to focus on that in training as well."
