Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact rumoured to get Google Android Lollipop OS update soon
Japanese technology giant Sony, which had mentioned last week that only users of its Xperia Z range of smartphones were eligible to receive Google's Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS update, is now expected to begin the rollout starting with the Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact smartphones.
According to a JustAboutPhones report, a leak of the software update schedule from Sony India's R&D unit showed the rollout status of Android Lollipop (for Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact) as "finalised" and the OTA release status as "now uploading."
This report clearly hints at an impending Android Lollipop rollout for users of Sony's Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact in India. The update can also be expected to reach other regions soon.
Therefore, users of Sony's Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact in India, and across the world can regularly check their smartphones for the new OTA notifications.
The latest report, quoting an internal source, mentions that the size of the update file will be approximately 520MB for the Xperia Z2, 630MB for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.
Other than through OTA, Google's Android Lollipop OS update can also be searched for manually and installed. To initiate a manual search, navigate to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check now.
However, users of Sony Xperia Z smartphones are advised to keep in mind that the Android Lollipop OS update has not begun its official rollout to the Xperia Z series of smartphones.
Currently, the Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact run the outdated Google Android 4.4 KitKat operating platform out of the box.
