Overview
The top two teams in test cricket, South Africa and India, go head-to-head and the latter will look to maintain their form in tests as they come in to this series on the back of a six match winning streak against Australia and West Indies earlier in the year.
The Proteas come into the tests after convincingly defeating the visitors 2-0 in the One Day International (ODI) series. Quinton de Kock was the star for the hosts as the wicketkeeper-batsman scored three consecutive centuries in the ODI series.
South Africa were on the verge of a series whitewash over the one-day world champions as the series entered its final match. However, the final game at Centurion was called off due to bad weather.
This will be the first time the visitors have played a test since the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar, who bowed out of international cricket in November.
