Overview
The surprise leaders of Group A, Spain, have exceeded expectations so far, finding themselves on top thanks to three wins from three games. The Spanish team started off their campaign on an impressive note thrashing hosts Brazil 7-0, after which they scraped through their next two opponents to ensure they remain unbeaten.
Alex Casasayas in particular has impressed, scoring important goals at crucial moments in the game. Spain have already booked their place in the quarter-final and with two games to go will want to ensure that they register maximum points so that they avoid Germany or Netherlands in the next round.
Their opponents, Belgium too are unbeaten in the competition, winning all three games, qualifying for the quarter-final in the process. The Belgians have lived up to their reputation as the most feared attacking side in hockey at present, scoring 17 goals in the process.
Their 12-0 thrashing of hosts Brazil set the tone for the tournament and in players like John-John Dohmen and Jerome Truyens they have experienced professionals who have represented their country more than 300 times.
The match between the two unbeaten sides will be won by the team who will defend the best on the day.
