Spider-Man: Homecoming adds Prometheus' Logan Marshall-Green and Silicon Valley's Martin Starr
Just yesterday (16 June), news emerged that rapper-turned-actor Donald Glover was in talks to star in upcoming superhero movie Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now, two more names have been thrown into the ring, Prometheus actor Logan Marshall-Green and Silicon Valley's Martin Starr.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, if Marshall-Green were to sign on to the Sony Pictures project, he would play an "evildoer" alongside Michael Keaton's big bad Vulture. Starr's prospective role in the film is currently being kept under wraps but it's likely he'll provide some sort of comic relief. Of course, it is known that both actors will appear opposite Tom Holland's Peter Parker in some capacity.
While Sony may be overseeing the film due to the studio still owning the rights to the titular character, Marvel Studios is producing and reportedly has complete creative control. When it makes it to cinemas, Homecoming will become the first standalone Spider-Man outing presented under the Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella.
Sony's Amy Pascal and Marvel's Kevin Feige are on board as producers. Not only will the film mark a new beginning for the web-slinger franchise but it will also be the fourth instalment when it comes to the MCU's Phase Three, following on from recently released Captain America: Civil War and upcoming titles Doctor Strange and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.
Marshall-Green was last seen in horror-thriller The Invitation and will next appear in television series Quarry. Meanwhile, Starr has just wrapped production on comedy film Infinity Baby with Parks And Recreation's Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming will also star Marisa Tomei as Peter Parker's Aunt May, The Grand Budapest Hotel's Tony Revolori as Manuel, Zendaya as Michelle, the female lead, and Robert Downey Jr as... you guessed it... Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M Goldstein, the film is scheduled to reach US cinemas on 7 July 2017 and UK big screens on 28 July.
