Sports coach caught groping pupil's genitals at South Africa boys' boarding school faces 160 charges
The 22-year-old is accused of sexual assault and attempted murder at the school.
A high school sports coach in South Africa was slapped with a 55-page indictment containing dozens and dozens of charges spanning allegations including attempted murder, grooming children, and sexual assault.
The unnamed 22-year-old assistant water polo coach, who worked at Parktown Boys' High School, a boarding school, was up in front of a judge at Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on 160 charges after reportedly being caught on CCTV groping a pupil's genitals.
He was accused of sexually grooming more than 20 pupils at the school, according to News 24, and as all the alleged victims were children, the indictment was not put on the record so they remain anonymous. The man will have his pre-trial hearing on 8 September at the South Gauteng High Court.
The Parktown Boys' High School, which did not comment on the court hearing, is in central Johannesburg. It's a fee-paying school, which charges boarders 52,000 South African Rand (£3,100) a year.
The school's website says it "believes in the commitment to an ethos of excellence and quality, honesty, integrity and gentlemanly conduct, tolerance and empathy, trust and respect, self-discipline, initiative and enterprise, leadership and team spirit, full participation, free communication, personal and social achievement.
"The motto of Parktown Boys' High School, 'Arise', inspires the tradition, values and spirit of the learners, parents and staff of the Parktonian family."
