Spotify is adding features to its mobile service in a bid to close the gap with its music streaming rival Pandora Reuters

Spotify has unveiled a new feature that allow users to choose from a range of "expert-made" party playlists, including playlist from popular genres and one playlist created by DJ Diplo. The feature is called Spotify Party and is a mobile-only feature that runs on iOS and Android devices.

The feature's "beat-matched music" automatically blends tracks, which means there will be zero interruption between two tracks. The feature has a "mood tuner" that users can make use of when they feel they want dancing music or music that helps to relax the crowd. The feature also comes with a "Play Queue", which show songs that would be played next and with its help users can remove or add or reorganise the tunes on the playlist.

Spotify in a blogpost said that it "worked with Diplo to create an exclusive set, resulting in more than 120 beautifully curated tracks, all easily tuned to the mood you're after".

"When it comes to throwing parties, you simply have to have the right playlists – or everyone will leave," Diplo said in a statement. "And while researching and picking out music is fun, it also takes a lot of time and effort. With Spotify Party, you're served with loads of beat-matched music that transitions perfectly, which you can easily adapt to whatever your current vibe is. Best of all, you don't have to do any of the legwork," Diplo said.

Cnet.com citied a Spotify spokeswoman as saying that the new feature is nestled in the Genres & Moods area within the Browse section on an iPhone or Android phone.

Spotify, with its more than 75 million active listeners, is catching up with its closest rival Pandora that has over 80 million active listeners. Apple Music, which was launched in June, has around 15 million active listeners.

Spotify Party was introduced on 16 December on Android and iOS devices.
