Overview
Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan suffered defeats in their opening games and the clash on Sunday will be a chance for both teams to register their first victory. The Lankans suffered defeat at the hands of co-host New Zealand in the opening game of the World Cup.
The Black Caps posted a total of 331 runs from 50 overs, for which Sri Lanka could manage only 233 runs, which resulted in a defeat of 98 runs. Angelo Mathews and his men will be keen on bouncing back from their defeat when they take on the minnows on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan suffered a huge defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in their first match of the tournament. Bangladesh managed 267 runs and in reply, Mohammad Nabi's side managed only 162 runs, which resulted in a defeat of 105 runs.
Afghanistan will be looking for an upset by defeating Sri Lanka and should that happen, it will be a massive blow for the Lankans.
