Overview
World No 3 Wawrinka continued his brilliant run of form, beating Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6, 6-2 in the semi-final on Saturday (24 September) to progress to the final of the St Petersburg Open 2016.
The win was Wawrinka's tenth on the trot, with his last defeat coming at the Cincinnati Masters a couple of months ago. It was not all smooth sailing for the Swiss international though, as he was forced to save set points before breaking in the first game of the decider and then rolling away with victory.
Nineteen-year-old Zverev has had an impressive season so far, with this being his third appearance in the final of an ATP event this year.
Ranked No 27 in the world, Zverev comes into this clash on the back of an impressive 6-4, 6-4 win over Tomas Berdych in a game that lasted one hour and 21 minutes. Despite his promise and potential, Zverev comes into the game as an underdog.
