Star Wars Battlefront: DICE give update on Bespin DLC, offline modes and confirm Lando Calrissian
EA DICE has revealed the first details of its next major expansion for Star Wars: Battlefront, and has also teased that a much-requested offline mode will be added in a future update. The Bespin DLC is set to arrive in June and will include new levels for the game's 40 player modes and Flight Squadron.
In a blog post EA DICE revealed the next hero and villain coming in the expansion. As expected Lando Calrissian will make his debut alongside the new maps set on Cloud City – setting of his debut in The Empire Strikes Back. The next villain coming to the game is Dengar, a bounty hunter seen alongside Boba Fett in the original trilogy.
"This June, Season Pass holders will also receive our second digital expansion pack, Star Wars: Battlefront – Bespin," reads the post. "We're taking players in and around Cloud City, with four new maps for all of our most popular modes. You'll see AT-ATs in Cloud City, take to the skies in Fighter Squadron, and even spend time in a carbonite chamber. Of course, we're also adding more blasters and Star Cards, a new game mode, and two new iconic characters we're really excited about."
In regard to an offline mode, the post says: "We also have a couple of surprises in store that we know our fans have been looking for, especially those who have been clamouring for ways to have more options to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront offline. More to come soon." Whatever this ends up being, it is said it will be part of a free update.
New in-game events and Hutt Contracts (which unlock powerful cards) will also come in future free updates, as will special activities planned for May the 4th, otherwise known as Star Wars Day.
Discussing the two expansions to arrive after Bespin (one set on the Death Star later this year and another unannounced one early in 2017) the post says players can expect an additional eight playable heroes and villains are to come, split evenly between the two releases.
Our money would be on Chewbacca and Obi Wan Kenobi as heroes in the Death Star expansion and characters based on spin-off movie Star Wars: Rogue One (set around the same time as the game) for the other expansion.
