Arrow season 4 finale: Stephen Amell responds to social media backlash
Arrow's season 4 finale may have turned out victorious for Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak (in their defeat of Damien Darhk, while saving the world from a nuclear attack) but fans thought otherwise. The ending failed to impress devotees to the show, who took to social media to share their disappointment.
Fans even changed the Arrow subreddit to 'Daredevil Season 2 Discussion' due to alleged similarities between the two shows. Actor Stephen Amell responded to the backlash while appearing on Larry King Live.
Amell told the host: "I think Twitter largely is overblown. I'm not saying that these people aren't passionate and I'm not saying that their opinions shouldn't matter but I do think that their voices tend to be so loud that we think the crowd is much bigger than it actually is. I happen to think that it's much smaller. Most people still enjoy a show in the traditional way, which is to watch it... and not to tweet constantly throughout it."
When asked about Oliver and Felicity's future in the show, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 actor said: "For some reason, different people who are fans of the show have seemed to split up into different fractions. But again, I really do think that it's a few people with very loud voices. And I feel like if you are going on the attack for fictional characters, that you're probably not real fans of the show."
Season 4 ended with Thea Queen and John Diggle quitting the Arrow team, thereby leaving Oliver and Felicity with the "job of cleaning up Star City". Though Arrow season 5 returns this October on The CW, a premiere date has not yet been announced.
