Steve Harvey: Man who goofed up Miss Universe 2015 says 'Merry Easter' on Christmas Day
You would think that the humiliation and memes directed at Steve Harvey post the Miss Universe fiasco would have him ducking for cover. Hardly. The Family Feud host who felt extremely sorry for his goof-up sought to get over the incident by poking fun at himself.
Harvey posted a "Merry Easter" message for his social media followers on Christmas day, showing he can take jokes. The post carries a picture of him smoking a cigar with holiday decoration in the background. The text conveys Easter greetings.
Harvey, a 58-year-old comedian and talk show host, made the big error in front of a global television audience at the Miss Universe pageant on 20 December when he misread his cue card and announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner. Miss Columbia was even crowned. However, in what will be remembered as one of television's biggest blunders, Harvey apologised and announced that Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was the actual winner.
The video showing the expressions of both Miss Columbia and Miss Philippines has since taken the internet by storm with people blaming Harvey for ruining the night for the two contestants, especially for Miss Colombia. Harvey was quick to apologise on Twitter for what he called "an honest mistake," but much damage had been done.
Memes, jokes and parodies have flooded the internet with Harvey trending on all social media sites days after the goof-up. Miss Colombia, Gutierrez, recently made peace with the incident saying in an Instagram post it was her fate to be mistakenly crowned the winner.
