Suicide Squad: Jared Leto thinks the Joker cannot exist in reality
The anti-heroes of DC Extended Universe are set to save the world from an unknown threat in the upcoming movie Suicide Squad. While all the characters are equally deadly, it is Jared Leto's Joker that fans are eagerly waiting to see when the movie premieres in August.
Off late, Leto is in news for his dedication to portray the notorious character naturally, and the trailer of the movie proves it too. "The Joker is fantastic because there are no rules. The Joker operates from instinct," he told EW and also explained that he has to become "part detective, part writer" for the character transition.
"I knew I had to be committed as much as possible. I had to be committed beyond belief. And I did what I needed to do deliver the best I possibly could," he added.
The Academy-winning actor is known for his realistic approach when it comes to playing different characters and he has proved it before while playing a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club. However, he thinks the Joker is not someone who can exist in reality. Hence, he had to read literature on shamanism to get into the character.
"He became a real person. I don't know if person is the right word. I think the Joker lives in between reality and another plane. Kind of a shaman in a way. It's a very intoxicating role to take on. You have permission to break rules and to challenge yourself and anyone around you in a really unique way," Leto told the entertainment news outlet.
The David Ayer-directed movie, which is an adaptation of the DC Comics Suicide Squad, releases later this year and will see a league of imprisoned supervillains being offered clemency by a secret government agency known as "Task Force X". Led by Amanda Waller, the team will be tasked to save the world from an unknown but powerful threat.
The highly anticipated movie, which will premiere on 5 August in the US, also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc.
