Overview

India take on Malaysia on Friday in what is a do-or-die battle to secure a final spot in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. The Men in Blue come into their final game of the round-robin tournament in third-place with nine points from five games.

The team needs to make sure that they win this game to ensure a place in the final, as they are currently two points behind second placed New Zealand, who have played all their six games.

India will take inspiration from the last meeting between these two teams when they beat Malaysia 3-2 in 2015 World League semi-finals to shatter Malaysia's hopes of an Olympic berth.

The hosts, on the other hand, are currently in fourth place on the points table with eight points from five games and need to beat India by seven goals to earn a place in the final. A loss here will be a blow for Malaysia, who then can only hope to win the bronze medal.

Captain Razie Rahim, who has played a key role in the tournament so far, might miss the game because of injuries sustained on his lip and hand. If he is ruled out, it will be a big blow for the hosts as his penalty corner conversions have played a major role in Malaysia's good show in the tournament.
