Manuel Pellegrini takes his men to the Stadium of Light as Manchester City face Premier League club Sunderland in the third round of the Capital One Cup clash on 22 September, Tuesday.
Where to Watch
Kick-off is set for 7:45pm BST. There is no live coverage of this match in the UK.
Overview
Sunderland have not enjoyed a great start to the season as they are still without a win after six matches. The Black Cats suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Premier League newcomers AFC Bournemouth in the last clash.
Dick Advocaat has seen his men seal only one win in all competitions, which came against Exeter City as Sunderland sealed a 6-0 win in the second round of the Capital One Cup. He will be looking to eliminate the league leaders in the third round of the competition.
City were cruising in the Premier League as they managed five wins in a row. In the five matches, they were successful in keeping clean sheets in all the fixtures. However, they suffered their first defeat in all competitions against Juventus in the Champions League clash.
Following the defeat at the hands of last season's finalist, Manuel Pellegrini saw his side lose to West Ham United in the league at the Etihad. City lost 2-1 as the Hammers managed to defeat another top team in their own backyard. After two losses, the former Real Madrid manager will be looking to bounce back when City face Sunderland in the Capital One Cup.
What Managers Say
Dick Advocaat: "We have to fight and have to work. Last Sunday [against Tottenham] I thought we were going in the right direction against a good side but this was three steps back. For the fans it is a shame. We all are well-paid and they give a lot of money to see this game."
Manuel Pellegrini: "One thing I never do is to have an excuse about players that cannot play. We had players that could play and those players know the way they must play. They are good players, I have a strong squad and because David and Kompany could not play we cannot have excuses that we have lost to West Ham at home."
