Nintendo's big winter offering, Super Mario Odyssey, has been named the game of the show at this year's Gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany. The Nintendo Switch exclusive also won best Switch game, best action game and best family game.

Super Mario Odyssey also won the most-wanted game award, which was voted for by attendees at the show. Assassin's Creed Origins, Metroid: Samus Returns and Forza Motorsport 7 were among the other winners.

IBTimes UK was in attendance at the show, and can report that Super Mario Odyssey's booth was easily among the most popular at the show, drawing a huge queue.

In the categories Odyssey couldn't win, Ubisoft's new Assassin's Creed title picked up Best PS4 game, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War was named the best Xbox One title and Kingdom Come: Deliverance picked up the PC award.

Best Mobile Game, which includes Nintendo 3DS and smartphone offerings , went to Nintendo's Metroid: Samus Returns.
