Syed Jamanoor Islam was stabbed to death in Mile End, east London Met Police

Three males have been arrested in South Yorkshire over the fatal stabbing of Syed Jamanoor Islam. The 20-year-old was killed in Mile End on 11 April after two groups clashed on the streets of east London.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder the next day and has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in April. On Sunday three males – aged 18, 15 and 17 – were arrested in the early hours of the morning 200 miles away from the murder scene in South Yorkshire on suspicion of murder. They are in custody at a south London police station.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Lynes said: "We are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at that time and might have seen what happened or who has any information about the circumstances. Officers are keeping an open mind about a possible motive."

Islam was the third young male stabbed to death in 24 hours as knife crime in London claimed more victims. A 19-year-old man killed in Northolt in north London a day after Rene Richardson, 24, died following a stabbing in Plumstead, south-east London, at about 4.30pm on Monday.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, on suspicion of murder his murder while four men – three 19-year-olds and an 18-year-old – were arrested in Northholt.
