Alexandra Burke Slams Footballer Ex Jermain Defoe in Song
Alexandra Burke has hit out at her cheating ex-boyfriend Jermain Defoe - Taylor Swift style.
The former X Factor star, who was devastated when the footballer's infidelity surfaced in 2012, has slammed him in her new track, Day Dreams.
The song, which talks about her failed romance with Defoe, who she later dumped, appears on her #NewRules EP which she is releasing as a taster for her forthcoming third album.
It features the lyrics: "Millions of people and me, one / And I'm feeling I'm the last to know / Our private network - we built became a best seller show.
"What were you thinking at the time when you decided to sleep with her? / It didn't stop there, this I know, 'cos the papers f***ing told me so."
Burke said that music helped her get over Defoe who was exposed in a tellall by nurse Kirsty Crummey and was caught out with model Laura Brown.
"Working on this new material has been really emotional," she told the Mirror.
"I've opened up lyrically more than ever and talked about things I never thought I would. But I always write from the heart."
The Bad Boys singer admits that she struggled to cope with the betrayal.
"I had moments and I cried and I'm not ashamed to say so / Drank every day, lost my best friend but I replaced you with merlot."
She said her new EP was a 'thank you' to fans who have stood by her since she left her record company RCA earlier this year and signed a management deal with US super league company KWL.
