Ballad is Swift's first new single since the release of her 1989 album in 2014.
Senior Entertainment Reporter Alicia Adejobi will be on Victoria Live on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel today (9 December) at 10.45am talking about Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik's Fifty Shades Darker single.
Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik have delivered an early Christmas present for fans. The pop stars have teamed up for a new song, I Don't Wanna Live Forever, which is set to feature on the soundtrack for the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker movie.
Swift, 26, sent fans into a frenzy after sharing a teaser of the sultry ballad via Instagram on 9 December with clips from the Fifty Shades Of Grey sequel, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Lyrics from the Bad Blood singer include: "Baby, baby, I feel crazy/Up all night, all night and every day/Give me something, oh, but you say nothing/What is happening tonight?" before Malik chimes in with: "I don't wanna live forever/'Cause I know I'll be living in pain."
So far, the track is only available to stream on Apple Music but can be purchased from iTunes.
The collaboration has come as a huge surprise for fans who seem to be unaware that Swift and the former One Direction star were friends.
One commented: "If someone told me Zayn and Taylor Swift would one day make a song for the fifty shades of grey sequel i would've laughed," while another said: "zayn and taylor have a song together for the fifty shades movie?? a zayn and taylor swift collab?? okay.. i did not see that coming wow." Another said: "I WOKE UP TO A SONG FROM TAYLOR AND ZAYN AND TAYLOR ON TUMBLR I AM SO CONFUSED AND BEWILDERED."
Even from the short snippet, others determined the song would be a hit for the pop duo, with one enthusing: "I really like the new Taylor and Zayn collab ! It sounds great, never thought they would do a collab but love it." Another said: "Zayn and Taylor's song actually sounds good," while another weighed in: "I really like the new Taylor and Zayn collab ! It sounds great, never thought they would do a collab but love it."
I Don't Wanna Live Forever was recorded solely for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack and boasts a star-studded songwriting line-up of Swift, fun. frontman Jack Antonoff and Sam Dew with production from Antonoff. It is not known when the two pop stars formed a friendship but it is likely they were introduced by model Gigi Hadid who is dating Malik and best friends with Swift.
The ballad is the first piece of new music to feature Swift's vocals since the release of her fifth album 1989 in 2014. Malik, 23, released his debut solo album Mind Of Mine in March. The Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack is set for release on 10 February.
