Teen Choice Awards 2015 highlights: Vin Diesel honours Paul Walker, Little Mix perform and more
Fun, frolics and even a few tears were had by all at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards with performances from the likes of Little Mix and Wiz Khalifa and an incredibly moving speech from Furious 7 actor Vin Diesel in tribute to his late co-star Paul Walker.
Hosted by Ludacris, Gina Rodriguez and Josh Peck at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, the annual awards celebrated everything teens have been loving over the past 12 months, including music, TV, film and, of course, social media. It was certainly a hectic evening with the bevy of awards presented to winners and performances to keep the audience entertained, but here are some other highlights viewers may have missed...
Vin Diesel dedicates award to Paul Walker's daughter
The Fast & Furious actor can always be relied on to deliver an emotional speech but his words at the teen awards were especially touching given Walker's daughter, Meadow, was in the audience. While accepting the Choice action/adventure award for Furious 7 alongside his co-stars Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, Diesel tributed Walker, who died in November 2013.
Diesel said: "Since this is a Teen Choice Award, you beautiful teens, there is one teen in the audience that is a part of the family that kept us going. It was Paul Walker's family, his brothers, his parents, that kept us going while we were filming Furious 7.
"But there's one very, very, very special teen here, and her name is Meadow Walker. One of the best blessings in our lives is the fact that we have the opportunity to call Pablo our brother. Paul Walker is here in spirit with us."
Nina Dobrev waves goodbye to Vampire Diaries
The 26-year-old actress arrived on stage with good humour about her departure from the series, wearing a pair of fake fangs before tossing them on to the stage, but emotions kicked in once Dobrev realised it was the last award she would win for her role as Elena Gilbert/Amara/Katherine Pierce. During her acceptance speech for Choice TV actress in a sci-fi or fantasy, Dobrev said: "The last few months have been a big change for me. Change. It's a scary word, or I used to think that, because it meant new beginnings. New beginnings with a future that was unknown.
"Necessary for you to grow up and learn and to better yourself, because everything in life comes to an end. As this chapter of my life comes to an end, I look back at it with a grateful heart, and I smile, because just like my character Elena, I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up. We've grown up and over the last six years we've become women... These were six incredible years that I had the pleasure of sharing with all of you guys. We wouldn't be here without you."
Little Mix bewitch the audience with Black Magic
All eyes may have been on Perrie Edwards following her split from former One Direction star Zayn Malik but the singer brushed away her personal woes to put on a storming performance with Little Mix. Before winning the Choice breakout artist award, Edwards and her bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Jesy Nelson performed their latest number-one single Black Magic, followed by a very excitable acceptance speech.
Gabourey Sidibe shakes it like a rock star with Empire co-stars
Empire star Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon on the show, admitted that he wrote the song about her so it was particularly fitting that Sidibe joined him on stage during his performance of You're So Beautiful. Clearly having the time of her life on stage, the actress twerked, twirled and danced like a true pro while Bryshere "Yazz" Gray, who plays Hakeem Lyon, dropped in for his rap verse.
Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson get touchy-feely during 1D's speech
One Direction were not able to attend the awards ceremony due to their tour commitments but the boys were just as cheeky as ever with Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne not-so-discreetly messing around with each other. While Harry Styles dutifully thanked fans for one of their eight awards, Tomlinson gave Payne a playfully hit in the stomach – or his nether regions – forcing the pair to stifle their laughs. Boys will be boys.
Bella Thorne and Gregg Sulkin win the cutest couple award
Well, not officially but the young lovebirds made onlookers swoon with their copious amounts of PDA throughout the ceremony, including kisses on stage, holding hands on the red carpet and even calling each other by their pet names, according to E! News.
