Teenage arsonists hunted after 'accelerant used' to cause huge fire at north London home

Police are searching for two teenage arsonists after a blaze swept through a three-storey house in London's Chalk Farm area.

Over 30 firefighters and six fire engines were at the scene of the inferno. Footage taken at the scene showed clouds of black smoke in the air. The cause of the fire has not been established although police state that an "accelerant" was used.

The incident, which place on Prince of Wales Road in Kentish Town, is being treated as arson, according to police, who are appealing to witnesses for information.

Two males, believed to be in their late teens, according to the Evening Standard, were spotted outside the premises where the fire started. One is alleged to have thrown something in the direction of the building.

They are described as around 5ft 4ins in height and with slim builds. One was wearing red trainers and carrying a blue Nike backpack.

The pair then walked in the direction of Haverstock Hill, police stated.

Detective Constable Dean Puzey, Central North CID said: "Due to the prompt response of police and London Fire Brigade surrounding houses were evacuated. Luckily no one was injured and the fire was brought under control quickly.

"The house was badly damaged and there were no reports of anyone being injured in the blaze, although residents in neighbouring homes had to be evacuated.

"We are keen to hear from anyone with information on this incident and in particular those who witnessed the two males near the address around the time the fire started. If anyone took images or captured footage of these males then we ask you make contact us with us as soon as possible."
