Ten shot dead in gun battle at Mexican cockfight
A 12-year-old boy is believed to be among 10 people shot dead in a gun battle at a cockfight in south-west Mexico. Seven others were injured in the incident in Guerrero, a state which has been plagued by violence between drugs gangs.
Gunmen burst into the cockfight in the town of Cuajinicuilapa, near the state of Oaxaca, and sprayed the crowd watching the fight with bullets, with some shooting back, said the Guerrero prosecutor's office. A law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity to the Associated Press said that one of the dead was the 12-year-old son of a local criminal gang boss.
However officials told AFP that violence broke out between rival groups at the cockfight.
The violence follows a gunfight at a football match in Acapulco left three dead and four wounded on the night on Sunday, 8 November, municipal police told AFP.
Guerrero is the state where 43 students disappeared after a protest last year, with corrupt police alleged to have handed them to drugs gangs, who murdered them.
