These photos of Trump and Merkel are as awkward as the time he met the Pope

When Trump isn't failing spectacularly at shaking hands with world leaders, he is busy posing for uncomfortable photos with them.

Ahead of the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany, Trump met Chancellor Angela Merkel for a photo op - and unsurprisingly, it was awkward.

Although the pair met before at a Nato summit in Brussels in May, they were part of a larger group, including Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The relationship between Trump and Merkel is tense - the US president has repeatedly criticised the German chancellor for allowing refugees into the country - and these pictures are living proof.

Their meeting was described as "cordial" - but as we all know, a picture is worth a thousand words.

And it's not the only awkward encounter the President has had this week.

During his visit to Poland on Thursday, Trump was snubbed by Polish first lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, who ignored him and instead warmly greeted his wife Melania with a handshake.
