Three people killed in separate Dorset road collisions
Three people have been killed in separate road accidents in Dorset in the last 24 hours.
Two died and four were seriously injured after a head-on road crash between a Volkswagen Transporter van and a Volkswagen Golf on the A37 near Dorchester on Friday night (8 May).
In the early hours of Saturday (9 May), a 42 year-old woman suffered serious injuries and died shortly after she was hit by a Peugeot 106 at a road junction in Boscombe.
The incident occurred at 1:17am, and a 34 year-old man from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
Appeal for witnesses
Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision on Friday night, which occurred at around 10:15pm three miles north of Grimstone.
A 25-year-old woman from Bridport and a 45 year-old man from Poole died, and the passenger of the Volkswagen Transporter, a 37 year-old woman from Poole, is in a life-threatening condition.
Police said that the 28 year-old male driver of the Volkswagen Golf, who is from Devon, and two other passengers, a 28 year-old man from the Exeter area and a 26 year-old woman from the Bridport area, have sustained serious life-changing injuries.
The victims' next of kin have been informed, and the four injured people were taken to hospitals in Yeovil and Dorchester to be treated.
Sergeant Joe Pardey, of Dorset police's traffic unit, said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the incident to please call me urgently on 101. All calls will be treated in strict confidence.
"The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident allowing officers to establish what happened."
