'Throw her in': Teen arrested for battery after 68-year-old woman taunted and flung in Florida pool
16-year-old hands himself into police after footage emerges from party in North Lauderdale.
A teenager has been arrested in connection with a video showing an elderly woman getting dropped onto the ground and thrown into swimming pool at a party in Florida.
A 16-year-old boy has handed himself into police after footage of the incident at a pool party in North Lauderdale was shared widely on social media.
The video shows 68-year-old Nancy James walking into the party in an attempt to get the music turned down. With her are two dogs on leashes. James is taunted by the partygoers, with some heard shouting "throw her in".
Moments later, a teen picks her up by the waist, before slipping on the floor, sending them both crashing to the ground. The suspect then begins to pull on the elderly woman's shirt and leg and hurls her into the pool. Her dogs managed to flee before being dragged into the pool.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said the teenager who handed himself in now faces a charge of battery on a person 65 years or older in connection to the incident. According to the arrest report, the teen told officers: "I messed up and I have to own up to it."
The report adds that the incident left James "very frightened and upset". She also had bruises on her leg and shoulder which the police believe "were most likely caused by the incident."
The 68-year-old had also recently undergone hip surgery before she was thrown in the pool, reports NBC Miami.
Her friend Shay McNair said: "She doesn't walk that good, you can see that. Like, why would you do that to her? She was recovering already from what I understand a broken hip from not long ago."
