Drake fans outraged as OVO Fest tickets listed for $100,000 on Stubhub
Drake performed annual music concert alongside Tory Lanez and French Montana on 7 August.
Tickets for Drake's annual OVO Fest are usually in high demand but reselling a pair for $100,000 (£76,700) each might be a tad extreme. Some fans hoping for a last-minute opportunity to attend the annual music event spotted the expensive tickets on Stubhub and questioned whether seeing Drake and his friends perform was worth the extortionate price.
Drake, 30, performed the popular one-night festival at the Budweiser Stage in his hometown of Toronto, Canada on 7 August. Tickets sold out almost immediately when they were released in June leaving thousands of Drizzy fans disappointed at missing out on the live action. However, another batch were put up for resale on the secondary marketplace, including Stubhub which reportedly advertised a pair for $100,000 each.
Posted by an independent seller, the tickets were located in the Lower 203 tier which was close to the floor and stage. However, one ticket offering a much clearer view of the stage in Lower 202 was being offered for the significantly lower price of $2,100. It is not known if the $100,000 tickets were snapped up.
Reacting to the astonishing ticket price, one Drake fan tweeted: "Ovo fest tickets for 100k? Do these tickets let you get to go on stage with drake too?"
Another added: "For 100k Drake better take me out to eat and put me on a song."
Offering a suggestion, one commented: "Drake should buy that 100k ticket and give it away to a real fan. Otherwise it'll be some bozo in the seat just cause."
Seeing the comical side, one quipped: "Giving up a f*****g kidney to see this."
While another joked: "For $100K that s**t better turn me into Drake."
Explaining the $100,000 tickets, Cameron Papp, communications manager from Stubhub, told IBTimes UK: "Sometimes sellers will list prices for astronomical prices but they rarely ever sell. It is simply an 'asking price' and an asking price that high will never sell. I can assure you that no concert ticket has ever sold on StubHub for $100,000.
"Oftentimes sellers will list prices for a high amount while they wait to see what the market is dictating, then they eventually drop their price if they are truly trying to sell their tickets... The highest ticket price sold for OVO last night on StubHub was $1,650 for a floor seat."
For those that were able to afford a reasonably priced ticket, it was another eventful year at OVO Fest. Drake graced the stage himself to perform a string of hits including One Dance while also inviting a string of special guests during his set. Tory Lanez joined the rapper for his remix of Controlla, Travis Scott and Migos teamed up with Drake for Portland while The Weeknd and Nelly also made appearances.
French Montana was joined by Rae Sremmurd's Swae Lee for their summer smash Unforgettable while PARTYNEXTDOOR and Cardi B were among other performers. Closing off the night with a surprise, Drake announced that he was currently working on his next album in Toronto. Before dropping the mic and leaving the stage, he stated: "It's the OVO Sound ting for life."
