Tina Fey and Amy Poehler take on Star Wars with Sisters: The Farce Awakens trailer
Some would call it a bold move to release your latest film in cinemas on the same day as the Star Wars: The Force Awakens (18 December). However, it doesn't seem to be bothering Tina Fey and Amy Poehler that much when it comes to their upcoming comedy movie Sisters. Instead the pair are jumping aboard Episode VII's never-ending promo campaign in a new spoof trailer.
The video, titled Sisters: The Farce Awakens, takes on more of a behind-the-scenes look at their movie than a typical advert and adopts an almost exact same style to interview specials we have seen of Star Wars 7 earlier on this year in the run-up to its release. Fey and Poehler speak about their experiences in making Sisters in British accents, which they claim is to disguise their drunken states, but you can't help but think it's a funny parallel against the two new London-born leads from The Force Awakens; John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.
Certain snippets even see co-stars Maya Rudolph dressing up in a gorilla-like Chewbacca outfit as she tries to perfect the famous Wookiee's noise and Ike Barinholtz recollecting how he had a "Sisters lunchbox and all the Sisters toys" when he was growing up.
To draw more hilarious comparison between the completely different films, there's a George Takei dressed as Darth Vader cameo thrown in for good measure and at one point, the actresses even refer to director Jason Moore as JJ-ason. (Sci-fi veteran JJ Abrams famously helmed Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
The clip concludes with a hashtag reading "you can see them both," as the hilarious pair say the same thing through voice-over, cementing the idea that cinema-goers don't have to choose to watch one film or the other – they can see both of the movies at some point!
Sisters sees Fey and Poehler play sisters with very different personalities, who throw one last party at their childhood home, which their parents are currently trying to sell. The movie also stars fellow Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch, as well as current cast members Bobby Moynihan and Kate McKinnon. Other appearing include veteran actors John Leguizamo and Josh Brolin along with rapper Ja Rule and WWE icon John Cena.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in UK cinemas on 17 December, with the film reaching US screens the following day. It will feature returning actors to the franchise Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, as well as a whole host of new faces to the Star Wars world including Game Of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis and of course, leads Boyega and Ridley. Sisters opens earlier in the UK than it does in the US, being shown in cinemas from 12 December.
