Toni Kroos

Manchester United target Toni Kroos has asked Bayern Munich officials to open negotiations with Real Madrid regarding a summer move, reports in Spain claim.

Kroos has been the source of constant speculation regarding a move away from Bayern as his contract expires next summer – and the negotiations over a renewal with the Germans are completely stalled.

David Moyes tried to secure his services during the January transfer window, and since van Gaal's appointment a number of Bayern players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford – including Kroos himself, Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The midfielder flourished under the guidance of the new United boss during his time as Bayern coach, and it was thought that their relationship could help his move to Old Trafford.

Kroos recently revealed that he is keen on finalising his deal with Bayern by staying one more season at the German club, but according to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial he is now considering a summer move.

The German international wants to become one of the clubs' top earners, alongside the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery, and with Bayern rejecting that demand his agent is working on a move away.

El Confidencial reports that the player is keen on moving to the Santiago Bernabeu. Indeed his agents have held at least three meetings with Real Madrid officials in the Spanish capital during the past year.

Carlo Ancelotti has earmarked the signing of a midfielder as his top-priority for the summer. Angel di Maria has been forced to fill that role this season, despite being a winger.

Real Madrid's first choice was Paul Pogba but with Juventus unwilling to listen to offers below €60m they are considering Kroos – as with his contract set to expire next season he will be much more affordable.
