Tottenham Begin Discussions with Agent of Belgian Midfielder – Report
Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with the agent of Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan who has been heavily linked with some of the top clubs in Italy.
According to reports on Sky Sports Italia, Tottenham have opened discussions with the agent of the 25 year old as they attempt to convince him to make the move to the Premier League where he would line up alongside international colleague Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele.
The Belgium international has spent his entire senior career playing in Italy and has played more than 100 games for Cagliari since joining them from Piacenza back in 2010.
Nainggolan is somewhat of a defensive minded midfielder, though he does have the ability to support his forwards and has scored two goals in his 33 league appearances this season.
There were suggestions that the likes of Napoli, Inter Milan and champions Juventus were keen to secure his signature in the summer, but Nainggolan dismissed these rumours back in February.
"I do not understand the stories," the midfielder wrote on his official Twitter account. "The website clearly knows more than I do! I really do not know anything."
However, he has continued to be linked with a summer move and it now seems as though Tottenham have joined the race to sign the versatile midfielder.
There have been rumours that Scott Parker is wanted by former manager Harry Redknapp, while Tom Huddlestone has also made it clear that he may have to leave the club in order to make sure of regular first team football.
Should both players leave White Hart Lane then Andre Villas-Boas would certainly want to bring in some cover for Brazilian midfielder Sandro who has been a huge miss after being ruled out for the remainder of the season back in January.
Spurs may have a battle on their hands to convince Nainggolan to move to north London as while Cagliari find themselves in mid table, the likes of Juventus and Napoli are already assured of Champions League football next season.
