Tottenham Prepare Shock Move for Swansea Striker Wilfried Bony as Romelu Lukaku Deal Falters
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to overtake Arsenal and Liverpool in their attempts to sign Wilfried Bony from Swansea City during the summer transfer window.
The Ivory Coast international has been linked with a move to both the Premier League giants as their respective managers Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers are looking to add proven talent into their goal-scoring department.
The Daily Mail reports that newly appointed Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has circled Bony as his priority signing if they fail to land Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
The Belgian international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks and has spent the last two campaigns on loan at West Bromwich Albion and Everton.
The 21-year-old has been the subject of interest from various clubs across England and Europe with Roberto Martinez's side also said to be among the interested parties.
Lukaku reportedly does not feature in Jose Mourinho's plans for the upcoming season. With the imminent arrival of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, Chelsea would want to ship him off for maximum profit.
The report also suggests that the La Liga champions want to sign the former Anderlecht star, on whom the Blues are believed to have placed a £32m valuation.
Pochettino too is interested in signing Lukaku, but given Chelsea's exorbitant demands and with Diego Simeone's side said to be offering him better terms, he might be forced to look at other alternatives.
The former Southampton boss wants to guide the north London club to a top four finish in the Premier League next season and thus wants to add quality strikers to their roster.
The 42-year-old is willing to sacrifice last summer's flop signing, Roberto Soldado, in order to raise funds for acquiring new players.
Bony, who still has three years left on his current contract, scored 27 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh Club last season. The 25-year-old's agent, Dalibor Lacina, had earlier admitted that the striker could depart from the Liberty Stadium only to join a top six club.
The Daily Mail also claims that Tottenham would have to fork out at least £19m for the Ivorian's services, the valuation placed by his current employers. Garry Monk's side are reportedly chasing Luc Castaignos' signature from FC Twente, which could further prompt Bony to leave Swansea this summer.
