Tottenham rekindle interest in signing PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot
Tottenham Hotspur have rekindled their interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to the Telegraph.
The north London club were interested in landing the 20-year-old on loan earlier in January. However, the deal did not take shape as he continued the remainder of the last season with his current employers.
Mauricio Pochettino is still keen on Rabiot and wants his side to make an approach for him in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Argentine manager is also interested in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
However, the French international has been linkedwith a move to Manchester United after the Saints star revealed his dream of playing in the Champions League. A move to White Hart Lane will not allow him to fulfil his dream of playing in Europe's elite club competition.
Pochettino is looking for alternatives and has turned his attention to the PSG midfielder. Rabiot started in 10 league games during the 2014/15 season and lack of playing time has forced him to consider his future at Parc des Princes.
Rabiot's mother Veronique Rabiot, who is also his agent, admitted the midfielder will leave PSG and has set his sights on making a switch to England this summer.
"Adrien loves PSG, he's attached and would love to make a career for himself there, but it's not possible. He needs 35 games per season to continue his progression, and this won't happen at PSG next season. I've asked for a transfer," Veronique explained.
"If he cannot play for PSG, then his choice is door on the Premier League. Adrien liked this style of football."
With Rabiot's agent already confirming they have asked permission from PSG for a transfer, the Frenchman is likely to leave the Ligue 1 champions in the summer transfer window. His contract at PSG runs down in 2019.
Tottenham need to match the French club's £20m ($31.7m) asking price in order to bring Rabiot to White Hart Lane. The price tag could be a stumbling block for the English club in completing the transfer.
