Tour de France 2014: Marcel Kittel Wins Third Stage in London
Marcel Kittel claimed his second stage victory of the Tour de France as the race completed the final phase of the Grand Depart from the United Kingdom.
The Giant-Shimano rider held off Green Jersey holder Peter Segan in a sprint finish on The Mall agfter the Cambridge to London stage, to claim the second win in three days before the Tour reaches the French mainland.
Mark Renshaw, in the role as sprinter in place of the injured Mark Cavendish, finished third.
Chris Froome is fifth in the general classification, with Vincenzo Nibali retaining the yellow jersey in a battle which will begin in earnest later this week.
"It was a strong stage and it was a bit tricky coming in and again there were some massive crowd out there," Froome said. "Today was about getting through the stage, don't lose any time and don't have any problems.
The 2013 yellow jersey winner evaded a late crash within the final few kilometres amid the inclement conditions to reach the line safely and is well placed having emerged from the three UK stages unscathed.
