Trump apparently had trouble finding a hotel in Hamburg for G20 and Twitter couldn't stop giggling
"My kid's day camp was far better organized", one Twitter user wrote.
US President Donald Trump apparently had a tough time finding accommodation in Hamburg, Germany, for the G20 summit after White House officials waited too long to make reservations. BuzzFeed reported on Tuesday that all the luxury hotels in the city were completely booked by other global leaders and their staff.
The scheduled summit was announced by organizers in February last year with 9,000 rooms required to accommodate the world leaders and their extensive staff.
According to local newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt, the US government staff wanted to stay at the Four Seasons. However, they were turned down because it was already booked.
Saudi Arabia's entourage had already booked all 156 rooms and suites at the Four Seasons along with multiple rooms at Hotel Renaissance and The Westin, BuzzFeed reports.
Meanwhile, the Hotel Reichshof was booked by Vietnam's delegation while the Park Hyatt was taken by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the prime ministers of Australia and South Korea. UK PM will be staying at Le Meridien, France's Emmanuel Macron will reside at the Mövenpick Hotel and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be at the Atlantic Kempinski along with the prime ministers of India and Canada.
A few weeks before the summit, it was reported that Trump and his staff would have to stay in Berlin and fly to Hamburg by helicopter for the summit.
However, The Associated Press reported that the Trump will be staying at the official Senate guest house in Hamburg while the US consulate will host his staff.
In the meantime, Twitter could not help but poke fun at the president, who is known for his luxury hotel empire, and his staff's predicament.
"Good God. How can we expect these people to run a country? They can't even manage their travel plans", one Twitter user wrote. Another wrote: "What happened to the 'finely oiled machine' he and his people brag about?"
Twitter user Holly O'Reilly tweeted: "The sheer incompetence of this White House is mind numbing.
Dude can't find his car or his hotel room. How is he going to fight terrorism?

Trump staff so inept they waited until all hotels were booked. Imagine these bozos in a crisis. https://t.co/fJQOtKOxe5

I hope their rooms have common bathrooms in the hallway.

If this admin cannot plan trips, imagine them planning military initiatives.
Well, he can always sleep in his car. If he can find it.

Another sign of just how INCOMPETENT this WH is...if it weren't so indicative of a much greater problem, it would be funny!

Let's take a moment and remember that Trump is in the hotel business. You cannot make this stuff up. The SNL skit writes itself.

Wonder if this was out of spite? That's what keeps me going, thinking that there are those on the inside poking the beast as best they can!

If it weren't for the life and death consequences Trump's many failures would be hilarious.

OK. I'll admit this one gave me a chuckle

This is what happens when you hire people who like you instead of people who are qualified.

Trump can't get a hotel room in Hamburg.

ð¤£ð¤£ð¤£ That's what happens when you don't fully staff your administration: you sleep on AF1. https://t.co/yNTmTZ9yvX
This seems comical, but it actually demonstrates a disturbing lack of security coordination and preparation. https://t.co/0NIVSRWM8D
