A football game in Turkey has had to be abandoned after an assistant referee was assaulted on the pitch by a fan. Trabzonspor were 4-0 down in extra time against Fenerbahce at home in the Super Lig on 24 April, when one fan ran onto the pitch, pushed the official, Volkan Bayarslan, to the ground, and then punched him in the face.

Riot police made their way onto the pitch, and the game was immediately called off. Both sets of players and the referees then ran off the field.

In a video uploaded to Twitter by Trabzonspor supporter Hakan Burak Taşkıran, more fans can been seen running on the pitch and attempting to catch players and officials. It is thought that Fenerbahce are likely to be awarded the win for the game.
