Twitter user arrested for racist message to Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck after Manchester United defeat
A teenage Twitter user has been arrested on suspicion of sending a racist message to Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck, after the player dumped former club Manchester United out of the FA Cup. The 15-year-old was arrested in Wiltshire in the wake of the Gunners' 2-1 defeat of United at Old Trafford on 12 March, 2015.
"A 15-year-old male from the Salisbury area was arrested on the evening of March 12 on suspicion of racial abuse," a Wiltshire police spokesperson said. "He has been released on police bail until April 13. He has been bailed to return to Melksham Police station then."
The incident is not the only alleged racism that has blighted football's image in recent weeks. On 11 March, five Chelsea fans were summoned to appear at Waltham Forest Magistrates' Court after a black man was pushed off a Paris Metro train amid racist chanting ahead of the London club's Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain in February 2015.
The summons were issued after seven suspected Chelsea fans allegedly sang racist chants at St Pancras Station following their side's match with PSG.
