'Frolicking' Teens Die in Tragic Deptford Balcony Plunge
Two teenagers have died after falling from a sixth floor balcony in Deptford, the Metropolitan Police have said.
The 18-year-old man and 19-year-woman were pronounced dead at the scene in Knights Tower, Wharf street in the early hours of this morning in what police are describing as a "tragic accident".
The couple were reportedly "frolicking" on the balcony of the flats when the tragedy occurred.
"We were shutting our blinds when we saw a couple on their balcony frolicking. They were kissing and stuff, she was telling him to get off her.
"We then shut our balcony."
Another witness told him the man had picked her up and put her on the edge of the balcony before they both stumbled and fell off.
Their next of kin have yet to be informed.
Police are not treating the deaths as suspicious but are continuing to investigate.
Inspector Shaun Carre-Brown said: "This appears to be a tragic accident and our thoughts go out to the families and those that knew them.
"I would urge any witnesses to make contact with detectives."
Local resident Lena Lindstrom tweeted this morning: "Still a bit in shock from the balcony fall here at the Deptford development. So so sad."
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and ask for the CID at Plumstead police station.
