Uefa Euro 2016 Open Ceremony: Twitter reacts to a colourful show at the Stade de France
The long-awaited start of Euro 2016 was ushered in by an opening ceremony that featured dancing girls and a performance of the tournament's anthem, 'This One's For You', by David Guetta and Zara Larsson.
The French DJ and the 18-year-old Swede performed the centre piece of a brief but colourful ceremony, which also saw the French air force fly over the Stade de France, where the first match between the hosts and Romania was being staged.
The stadium itself was a sea of colour well before kick-off, as fans from both teams packed into the arena, which was the scene of France's greatest footballing triumph - the World Cup in 1998.
But despite the enthusiasm for the tournament, the opening ceremony prompted a mixed reaction from fans on Twitter, some of whom were distinctly unimpressed by what they saw.
Here's some of the most eye-catching reaction to the opening ceremony in the French capital:
It coulda been worse, they could've had that dreadful 'artist' named Pitbull at the opening ceremony. #EURO2016 #DavidGuetta

13 minutes for an opening ceremony for a football tournament is about 12 minutes too much.

I could have put on a better opening ceremony than that

On the flip side, some of the watching audience thought the opening ceremony was the perfect way to herald the start of the tournament, which is considered to be one of the most open in living memory.
Watching the opening ceremony for #EURO2016 really makes me wish the US cared for soccer like the Europeans. The Copa just doesn't stack up
