UK terror arrest: Coventry woman detained on suspicion of Syria terrorism plot
West Midlands counter terror police have arrested a woman at an address in Coventry over an alleged terror plot linked to Syria. The 28-year-old was detained under the Terrorism Act by the force's anti-terrorism unit.
Three homes in the Foleshill and Radford areas are being searched as part of the investigation and police have moved to allay fears there was a risk to public safety.
A West Midlands Police statement said: "Officers are this morning carrying out searches at three addresses in the Foleshill and Radford areas of the city in connection with the investigation. The searches are being made under terrorism legislation. The woman will be questioned throughout the day at a local police station. The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence led and there is no risk to public safety."
The arrest comes after Mohammed Iqbal Hussain, 23, from Castle Road, Walsall, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with four counts of funding terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000. Mohamed Suyaubur Rohaman, 32, of the same address, was also charged with one count of funding terrorism.
They were remanded in custody by Westminster magistrates and will appear at the Old Bailey on 29 January.
