Ukip candidate in Newcastle 'told his head would be chopped off' by voter
A Ukip election candidate was told he would be beheaded during a phone row with a voter, a court heard.
David Robinson-Young, 62, became embroiled in a heated exchange of views about the Middle East with Aftab Ahmed, during the campaign in Newcastle East.
Ahmed, 44, allegedly made the threat when telephone canvassing took an unpleasant turn for the Ukip hopeful, earlier in April.
At Newcastle Magistrates Court on Thursday (30 April), Ahmed was accused of making a threat to kill. He spoke only to confirm his name and address.
Bail was granted ahead of a trial in July. No plea was entered.
