Ukraine Woman Killed Having 'Thrill' Sex on Train Tracks

A woman in the Ukraine has died after being hit by a train while having sex on the tracks.

Her 41-year-old partner lost both of his legs after getting hit by the switcher locomotive and is being treated in hospital for his injuries.

The woman, who is believed to have been in her 30s but has not been named, was having sex on the tracks in the south-eastern Ukrainian region of Zaporizhia.

The pair had been walking home after a night out at the weekend when they felt the urge to have sex. Both were drunk at the time of the accident, police said.

"Returning from our friends', my girlfriend and I could not overcome our passionate nature and wanted to feel a sense of thrill near a railway track," the man reportedly told police in a statement.

The woman was killed instantly and the man lost his legs from below the knee. Police have opened a criminal probe over a potential safety violation.

This is not the first time a couple has been hit by a train while having sex on the tracks.

A man and woman were both killed in South Africa in 2008 after being hit by a freight train. Police identified the couple as Mduduzi Michael Bandezi, 28, and Sibongile Radebe, 25.

The driver of the train said he hooted his horn at them but they "continued their business".

According to South Africa's Sowetan newspaper, Bandezi still had a condom on when his half-naked body was found.

The unmanned station was not in use but goods trains occasionally travelled through it. It was known as a popular area for prostitutes to take clients.

"The spot was littered with scores of used condoms when police arrived at the scene of the gruesome death of an alleged prostitute and her client," the paper said.
